IonQ’s Craig Miller on securing against quantum threats
IonQ Senior Director Craig Miller discussed the critical role of quantum technologies in national security. To maintain trust and speed in warfare, Miller emphasized the need to adopt post-quantum cryptography and NIST-approved algorithms to secure departmental networks against future quantum threats. He also highlighted quantum key distribution as an emerging security layer. Beyond computing, Miller noted that quantum sensing — including gravimeters and highly accurate clocks — is already moving from labs to field applications. He warned that the U.S. government must proactively adopt these technologies now to avoid being caught off guard by the rapid quantum revolution.
