Army to get new top uniformed network official
Maj. Gen. Jeth Rey was nominated to be the Army’s next deputy chief of staff, G6.
A notice posted on Congress.gov Tuesday indicated he was nominated for his third star. A source familiar with the pick confirmed that he’s been tapped for the G6 position.
In that post, he would be the principal military advisor to the Army’s chief of staff and chief information officer regarding planning, strategy, network architecture, and implementation of command, control, communications, cyber operations and networks for worldwide Army operations.
Until May 30, Rey was the director of the Army’s network cross-functional team, part of Futures Command, helping architect future needs for the network. He left that role to head to the Pentagon as the director of architecture, operations, networks and space within the G6, according to a previous announcement.
A pillar of his tenure at the cross-functional team was addressing the need for the Army to get to data centricity, now one of the secretary’s top objectives.
If confirmed, Rey would take over for Lt. Gen. John Morrison, who has held the role since August 2020.
In that job, Morrison helped shape the Army’s unified network strategy, which aims to consolidate the disparate portions of the service’s tactical and enterprise networks into a single global capability.
