Marine Corps releases new guidance on AI-powered Maven Smart System rollout

The Marine Corps put out new guidance Thursday about the availability and integration of AI-powered Maven Smart System capabilities across the force.
The release came a day after the Corps announced a new contract with Palantir for an enterprise license for the company’s MSS tool.
The deal will enable “unlimited access” to MSS via the SIPRnet Impact Level-6 (IL-6) cloud for all assigned and attached personnel at a slew of commands and organizations, according to the MARADMIN message released Thursday.
Those organizations include Headquarters Marine Corps and subordinate elements of HQMC, Marine Forces Pacific/Fleet Marine Force-Pacific and subordinate commands, Marine Forces Command and subordinate commands, Marine Special Operations Command, Marine-led task forces, the Corps’ support establishment and other units.
Access for Marine Forces Reserve personnel will be addressed in “subsequent iterations,” per the message.
MSS has “emerged as the standard fires and effects integration platform across multiple combatant commands and was selected to meet the Service requirement,” officials wrote, noting that the technology has already been adopted by U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, U.S. Central Command, and U.S. European Command. Marines have also conducted user evaluations and employed the system in “a variety of operational and experimental applications.”
The tech is seen as an enabler of the Pentagon’s modern warfighting construct known as Combined Joint-All Domain Command and Control, or CJADC2, that calls for better connecting U.S. military and allied sensors, shooters and data flows through a unified network.
The Marine Corps previously set up Project Dynamis to facilitate those efforts.
“The Project Dynamis Cross-Functional Team (CFT) will accelerate the delivery of a fully operational MSS capability at appropriate echelons that integrates with other [Marine Air-Ground Task Force] Command and Control systems and wider joint force solutions. The CFT will include representatives from across the range of Marine Corps stakeholders and implement program governance supporting MSS integration for both operational and supporting establishment functions,” the MARADMINS message stated.
Service leaders expect the Maven Smart System to enhance intelligence, targeting and decision-making for joint fires integration, as well as force development, generation and sustainment.
According to the Corps, the system provides a “comprehensive” user interface and data management platform that simplifies data sharing, workflow integration and fusion for AI-enabled battle management and command and control across warfighting functions. It presents data geospatially with tools such as Foundry, Gaia, Target Workbench, Maverick and LogX.
The Marine Corps has not disclosed the dollar value of the new contract with Palantir.
